Roy Fred "Fritz" Haussman Jr.

Roy Fred “Fritz” Haussman Jr. was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He passed away on February 4th, 2025, at the age of 90. Fritz was born to Roy and Thelma (White) Haussman on December 29, 1934. He was in the first graduating class from Calumet Township High School on May 20, 1952. He played basketball for three of his four high school years. He then attended Indiana University where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and earned his degree in business. It was at IU where he met his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Ehrhardt. Together they had 3 children: Dan, Kelly and Eric. Fritz was in the mortgage banking business and later in his career he owned an insurance claims construction company. Fritz enjoyed living on their small family farm where he could look at and talk about Dorothy's and the kid's horses, dogs, cats, sheep and chickens but was rarely seen "getting his hands dirty". He loved the fruits and vegetables that Dorothy and Kelly grew in their garden. He liked to take excess produce to the golf course so he could show his buddies what "HE" grew in "HIS" garden. Fritz started playing golf in 1960 and played competitively into his late 80's. He was a very avid Indiana University basketball fan. He enjoyed all college basketball and football and followed the Chicago Cubs during the college off-season. He also followed professional golf very closely. He had an unbelievable memory for recalling statistics from all of the sports that he followed. When Fritz and Dorothy retired, they spent their winters at their home in Longboat Key, Florida. Roy was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Thelma, his brother Lonnie and his wife Dorothy. He is survived by his 2 sisters: Karen Goehl and Nancy (James) Kryway; his children: Dan (Jessie) Haussman, Kelly Haussman and Eric (Sharon) Haussman; grandchildren: Dana (Harrison) Runyon, Amanda (Jason) Watters, Logan (Chris) Akers and Jake Haussman; 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart, IN, on Friday, February 14th, 2025, from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM. Interment at Salem Cemetery in Hebron, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Fritz's name to The Hobart Humane Society.
