Robert J Listowski

Robert Listowski, age 66, passed away December 19, 2016, after a brave 5 ½ year battle with kidney cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband of 44 yrs. to Karen. She was his Shnookie and he was her Boobatz. He was a proud father of Tracy (Paul) Lee, Becky (Patrick) Szuba and Kristen (Eric) Valiska; adoring “Papa Bob” to Bella, Jake, Lukas, Riley Jane, Payton, and Paxton Robert; loving brother to Richard and Jerry Listowski, Elaine (Tom) Thompson and Nancy (John) VanNaarden; fond brother- in- law to Lori and Joe Shaffer, Tom and Julianne Grankowski; uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bob was a former coach for Lynwood girls softball and a retired employee of US Steel and Viking Engineering. He loved to build and he could repair anything. When his first born baby girl was due, he built her a cradle with his dad. He made several more for his nieces and nephews as they were born. Bob was so proud of his three girls and they were the love of his life. He would sometimes Karoke with them to the song “My Girl”. His daughters would then change the words to “My Dad”. He worked side by side with his cherished son-in-laws, remodeling their basements and homes as he mentored them. They were the boys he never had. When each of them asked him for his daughters hand in marriage, he jokingly told them each “Yes, but NO RETURNS”! His favorite pastimes were riding his Harley, grilling his famous BBQ chicken wings, and just having beer with friends. The complete joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren, whom they affectionately called “Papa Bob”. He loved building birdhouses with them in the basement, flying paper airplanes, doing puzzles or board games, and swimming in his pool. He enjoyed going to their sports games or just snuggling in his chair watching TV with them while eating chips or his favorite candies….this is all he ever needed in his life. Bob wanted everyone to gather with his family and talk of good memories and funny stories and on Christmas everyone toast to his legacy. A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 3-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN.
