Phillip H. Govert

Phillip H. Govert, age 82, of Crown Point, IN, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7th, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Kraft) Govert; his children: Andrew (Vicki) Govert and Denise Flauding; grandchildren: Katelyn, Kenneth, and Kara Flauding, and Anna and Ella Govert; as well as his great-grandchildren: Serenity and Abbigail Cramer. He is also survived by his brother, Carl Govert and sister, Marilyn Joyce; as well as son-in-law, Michael Flauding, brother-in-law, Conrad Kraft; sister-in-law, Susan Kraft and Tammy Kraft. In addition to his immediate family, Phillip is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and many more dear friends and family. Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna Govert; in-laws, Frank and Mary Kraft; sister, Cecelia Certa; brother-in-law, Frank Certa; sister, Eleanor Nichels; brother-in-law, Ray Nichels; brother, Jerome Govert; brother, Roy Govert; sister-in-law, Peggy Govert, brother-in-law, Minnie Joyce; twin sister, Phyllis Beckham; as well as brother-in-law, Stewart Kraft. Born and raised in Griffith, IN, Phillip graduated from Griffith High School in 1959 before joining the United States Army. He served in the armed forces from October 1963 to October 1965, and began to work in data processing in Illinois after he completed his service. Phillip and Mary were married July 5, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Griffith, and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary just days before his passing. The love shared between the two of them allowed them to foster not only a beautiful relationship, but a beautiful home and loving family. Phillip loved watching auto racing, golf, Cubs baseball, and Bears football, attending church at Our Lady of Consolation in Merrillville, and loved spending time with his family, including his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phillip was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and an incredible man. Phillip left a profound impact not only on those listed above, but on anyone he encountered throughout his life. He was kind, gentle, and charming, and always left a room brighter than he found it. His light and laughter will be missed dearly, and his absence will be greatly felt by those who loved and cared for him. A visitation for Phillip will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. A visitation will take place on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 8303 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN.
