Michelle Banga

Michelle Banga, 62, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Michelle married her college sweetheart, John "Jan" Banga, in May of 1986 in Hawaii, where they celebrated the wedding she had always dreamed of. Their marriage was built on love, commitment, and family, and together they raised two sons, who were the pride and joy of her life: Nathan (Michael) Banga of Crown Point and Cameron (Kathryn) Banga of Chicago. Nothing brought Michelle more happiness than being "Gigi" to her beloved grandchildren, Gavin and Kylie Banga. She cherished every moment spent with them, and they will forever carry her love in their hearts. Michelle will be remembered for her kind spirit, unwavering generosity, and the way she always put others before herself. She had the biggest heart, was endlessly selfless, and found her greatest joy in caring for the people she loved. She dedicated many years of her life as an ICU nurse at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago before continuing her nursing career as a medical-surgical nurse at Hind Hospital and later at Merrillville Plaza Surgery Center. She truly loved caring for her patients, treating each one with compassion, dignity, and kindness. Beyond her career, Michelle generously dedicated many years to coaching youth soccer, where she helped shape the lives of young athletes with patience, encouragement, and kindness. Her caring nature extended far beyond her profession—she never missed a Halloween trick-or-treating adventure, a graduation, a birthday party, or a New Year's celebration with her beloved grandchildren. Whether family, friends, patients, young athletes, or someone in need, Michelle always made others feel welcomed, supported, and deeply loved. Michelle's legacy is one of unconditional love, compassion, and quiet strength. Her kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love for her family and others will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Michelle is survived by her devoted husband, John "Jan" Banga; her sons, Nathan (Michael) Banga of Crown Point and Cameron (Kathryn) Banga of Chicago; her cherished grandchildren, Gavin and Kylie Banga; her brother, Michael; her sister, Lisa; and her beloved companion, Moose. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Randy and Sheila. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN.
