Marjorie L Boyden

Marjorie “Marge’ Everett Boyden, age 92, of Portage, formerly of Hobart, passed away October 3, 2018. She was born May 5, 1926, the first child of William and Estelle Everett of Vincennes, IN. Marge was married to Robert E. Boyden of Gary, IN., on June 26, 1949. She was a graduate of Fritchton High School, Vincennes University and Purdue University with a BS degree in Home and General Science. Marge taught Home Science classes at Washington, East Chicago, Wirt, and Edison in Gary, as well as 5th grade in Lorton, VA. Bob and Marge constructed their own home in Miller, where they lived for 43 years. They were both active Scout leaders with their three sons. Marge was a room mother for all three of her sons. They traveled through most of the states in a travel trailer with their sons during summer vacations. Marge was active in church work, youth work when she was a teenager, an Elder in the Purdue University Presbyterian Student Church. She was a charter member and Deacon and Elder of the former Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Miller and attended the Marquette Methodist Church in Miller. Marge then resided in Hobart and became a member of the First Methodist Church of Hobart. Marge was active in many organizations, Sandears Home Extension Group, Beta Rho of Tri Kappa, Chapter Y of PEO, Junior Guild at Methodist Hospital. She loved the Dunes, entertaining, needle work, reading and gardening, which she found relaxing. Humming birds would come within six inches of her when she was on her knees pulling weeds. She will be greatly missed. Marge was preceded in death by her brothers – Richard “Dick” Everett; sister-in-law Kathryn “Katie” Everett, Herbert (Evelyn) Everett. She is survived by her three sons-William “Bill” Boyden of Portage, John (Laura) Boyden of Atlanta, GA, Thomas “Tom” Boyden of Chesterton; two grandchildren-Anna and Cole Boyden of Atlanta; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Marge’s life will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 654 East 4th Street, Hobart. Burns Funeral Home (Hobart) entrusted with arrangements.
