Flossie Irene Thomason

Flossie I. Thomason, age 102, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully in VNA Hospice care November 13, 2019. She was born on October 31, 1917 and raised in Smithland, KY. She was on the High School Basketball and Softball teams. She married Augustas “Gus” W. Thomason on July 25, 1940. Gus and Flossie had two daughters Janette and Nora. They moved to the Gary area in 1956. She was a Mother, homemaker, and employee of J.C. Penney Department Store in the Village where she worked as a seamstress and in the drapery department after her girls were grown. Flossie was preceded in death by her parents-Robert H and Nora Marrs; husband-Gus, brothers-LaRue Marrs, Rudell Marrs; sister-Janette Marrs; daughters-Nora Marlin and Janette Mills. She is survived by her Son-in-law James D. Mills of Valparaiso; Grandsons-James W. (Christine) Mills of Valparaiso, Gregory L. (Debbie) Palmer of Valparaiso, Jason C. Mills of Valparaiso; Great-grandsons Logan Palmer and Christopher Mills; Great-granddaughter Carle Palmer; very special Great nephew R. Donald (Dixie) Thomason of Hobart and Great niece Nancy Thomason of Dallas, Texas; Great-great niece Katie (Jake) Schinella of Fort Worth, Texas; and many loving nieces and nephews. Flossie was an amazing cook and loved to make holiday meals for her family. Family get-togethers really meant a lot to her especially during the holidays. She attended church all her life and had great faith in Jesus. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 417 in Smithland, Kentucky. She loved her church families as if they were her own. Flossie was always concerned about her family and friends and would be there in an instant for anyone that needed her. Her favorite hobbies were cooking, sewing, knitting, quilting, upholstering, and playing Scrabble and Dominos. She was very good at all of these things. Flossie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a very amazing lady and lived a long healthy life. Visitation for Flossie will be Monday, November 18, 2019, from 3-7:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart.
