David J. Matijevich

David J. Matijevich, age 76, of Winfield, Indiana, peacefully passed away on March 22, 2026, with his precious family by his side. He was born on November 4, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Bernice Matijevich. He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents- Matt and Anna Matijevich. David is survived by his loving wife of 50 years- Phyllis (Piccirilli) Matijevich, beloved sons- Joseph (Kelly) Matijevich, Mark (Whitney) Matijevich, and “Robbie” Matijevich. Also surviving are granddaughters (his “girls”)- Winona, Cecelia, and Monroe Matijevich. He retired from State Line Energy after 44 years working as a Maintenance Planner. He possessed an unparalleled work ethic which he passed onto his three sons. David was proud to be able to support his family and allow his wife to be a stay-at-home mom to their children. Some of David’s happiest moments were taking his family to Disney World, and fishing trips to Canada and Ludington, Michigan. He also enjoyed the many cruises that he experienced with Phyllis after his retirement in 2012, along with his 70th birthday cruise with his adult children. Recently, he had been thrilled to help his son maintain his 40-acre property in Medaryville, Indiana, by driving the tractor every spring and summer to prepare for hunting season. David had a passion for hunting, especially deer. He truly loved sitting in his hunting blind, watching the sunrise while listening to the soft sounds of nature emerging, just waiting for the right buck or doe to appear. His memory will be eternal, and he will leave an overwhelming void for his family. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 3 pm to 7 pm at Burns Funeral Home and Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, Indiana 46307. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 9 am at St. Matthias Church, 101 W. Burrell Drive, Crown Point, Indiana 46307. Rev. James Wozniak officiating.
