Angeline Rujevcan

Angeline Rujevcan, a longtime resident of northwest Indiana and suburban Chicago, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023, at age 91. Born March 21, 1932 to the late Milosh and Bosiljka Pujo, she was one of 11 children, survived by her loving sibling Ann Marie Pujo. A graduate of Gary Emerson High School, Angeline treasured her lifelong friendships with fellow classmates Theresa Tucker, Emma Defenser, and the late Geraldine DeFoor. After employment as a supervisor at Indiana Bell, Angeline was married to the late Rudolph Rujevcan, to whom she was a most loving, dedicated wife of 43 years. Together Rudy and Angeline built a family which includes children William (Kimberly) Rujevcan, Adriane (Richard) Bower, Robert (Juliet) Rujevcan, and Marla (Thomas) Darman. Angeline was also extremely proud of grandchildren: Colton, Anastasia (Frank) Bicek, Steele, Marielle, Madison, Lily, Claudia, and the late baby Sophia. She was also close to “friend-in-law” Randy Doler, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. Angie will be remembered for her deep joy in caring for her family; ability to always laugh, smile and chit-chat; and of course, her homemaking. With hands that were seldom idle, Angie lovingly prepared her signature dishes like sarma, presnac, and a variety of Eastern European desserts that will be cherished memories for many. She modeled living a life dedicated to serving; enjoying the simple pleasures of family and friend get-togethers gave meaning to her daily life. Angeline’s children gratefully acknowledge the servant hearts at Victorian Village Senior Community, Palos Heights Rehabilitation Center, and Lemont Nursing Center who cared for Angeline as she struggled with health issues in her later years. Their loving kindness to our mother will not be forgotten. A visitation will take place Tuesday, September 19, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 9191 Mississippi Street, Merrillville, IN. Father Marko Matic officiating. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery. Burns Funeral Home & Crematory of Crown Point entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church will be deeply appreciated.
