Alice Jean (née O'Connor) Bonham

Alice Jean Bonham, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by love. A devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Alice was known as “mom” to many, not just her own children, but to countless others whose lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering compassion. Alice had a heart that knew no limits. She helped anyone in need, loved deeply, and gave freely of herself. Her home was always open, her advice always honest, and her presence a source of comfort and strength. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and selflessness that will live on in all who knew her. She is survived by her loving children: Tabitha and Daniel Ortega (née Ward) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Richard Ward of Valparaiso, Indiana; Jason Ward of Hobart, Indiana; and Erica and Fernando Cruz (née Bonham) of Crete, Illinois. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Michael Jacobson, Caleb Schiesser, Richard Ward Jr., Austin Ward, Destiny Ward, Caden Stone, Fernando Cruz Jr., Catalina Cruz, Joshua Holtz, and Justin Holtz, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. Alice is also survived by her mother, Wanda Luxton (Miller, O’Connor), and her siblings: Paul O’Connor, Howard O’Connor, Diana O’Connor, Georgia Smith, John O’Connor, and Tami Bartra, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Alice shared a special companionship and love with her significant other, Jim Salmi, whose presence brought her comfort and happiness. Together they created many special memories, especially through their time spent traveling and enjoying life side by side. She is also survived by many loving friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, George O’Connor; her husband, Douglas Bonham; and her son, Joseph Ward whom she will now rest beside again. Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing Alice is now at rest, free from pain and reunited with loved ones who went before her. Her love will continue to guide us, her memory will forever be a blessing, and her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. Visitation will be held at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory 701 East 7th Street Hobart, Indiana 46342 on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at Christian Church of Hebron 202 E. Sigler Street Hebron, Indiana 46341 on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 10:00 AM.
