Sandie (nee Melton) Jewett, age 78, of Hobart, passed away September 22, 2020. She was born on January 7, 1942, in Gary, IN., to Orel and Stella Melton. Sandie graduated from Tolleston High School in 1960, then went on to study nursing at Purdue Calumet. She volunteered at Ridgeview Elementary School, helping students read and even painted murals on the walls of the school. Sandie was known to everyone as “Mom”. She also used her painting skills to teach tole painting at Carol’s House of Crafts. Sandie had a passion for helping animals and rescuing dogs. Sandie is survived by her son-Mike (Kristine) Jewett of Hobart; three pitbulls-Charlie, Julie, and Terra. There will be a small gathering of family and Mike’s close friends on Friday, September 25, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., meeting at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart, and then proceeding DIRECTLY to Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, where Sandie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband-Lee. www.burnsfuneral.com.
