Pamela Joyce Shelhart

April 17, 1956 - August 28, 2021

Pamela Joyce Shelhart, age 65, of Crown Point, passed peacefully on August 28th, 2021. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who will be missed immensely. Pam was born on April 17th, 1956, in Gary, Indiana to James Samuel, “Sam”, and Millie Elaine Bukur. Pam met her husband, John, then a police officer, while she worked as a dispatcher for the Merrillville Police Department. John and Pam knew instantly they were meant to be and married a few days after their 6-month anniversary. This year they celebrated 45 years together under the July 4th fireworks filled sky. Pam loved being a wife to John, but her true calling was to become a mom. Shortly after getting married, they were blessed with two wonderful boys. Pam’s heart for children extended well past her own household. She regularly supported St. Jude Research Hospital for Children and welcomed several foreign exchange students into her home whom she loved and cared for as her own. As her kids grew, she worked at Ivy Tech Community College as a secretary for 15 years often helping young adults with their resumes to launch them into their future professions. Pam enjoyed the outdoors and crafting. She spent time camping, traveling, painting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, and caring for her plants. Her green thumb and knowledge of plants were impressive, and she gave them out to anyone interested in caring for them. More recently, her joy came by way of grandchildren. She LOVED being “Mommo” and “Memaw” to her 5 grandkids and always shared a funny story about something they said or did. Pam was preceded in death by her mom, Millie Bukur. She is survived by her husband John Shelhart, her sons Sam (Leslie) Shelhart and Scott (Bethany) Shelhart; her grandchildren Jack, Kamryn, Veda, Remington and Jameson; and her siblings Jim (Gaye), Mike (Bobbie), Karen (Brock), Sandy (Joe).; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Burns Funeral home located at 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN 46307 Tuesday September 7th, 2021, from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pam Shelhart’s name to St. Jude Hospital for Children. www.burnsfuneral.com
