Moselle Louise Richards Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Moselle Louise Richards, age 42 of Hammond, formerly of Merrillville passed away December 27, 2021. She was born April 10, 1979, father- Garland D. Richards (deceased 2021) mother- Jamilah J. Myal; much beloved son- Destin Bell; dearest brother- Mason McCarty; and stepfather- Bobbie Lee; loving grandfather- Carl Ronschke (Granny Doris, who preceded her in death) uncle Mike; aunt Janice; cousins- Michael & Colin. Preceded in death by beloved aunt- Sharon; cousin- Keith Posey; paternal grandparents- "Gig" and "Bud" Richards. Moselle was also cherished by a host of many other dear family members whom Moselle loved deeply. Smart, funny and fiercely loyal, loving many friends from all walks of life. Moselle loved pitbulls, especially her dog Sunshine. She attended school for medical coding and had retained a knack for Latin from an extra credit class in high school. Moselle loved swimming having learned at the age of 6 months at the YWCA where she showed her skill when the teacher threw her off the diving board, much to the horror of Granny Doris. Moselle played soccer in High school. She could sing the words to any Beatles song ever written, not to mention many more gained from her father who was an audiofile and guitarist. She loved Cindi Lauper as a teen and Michael Jackson's "Bad" as a child (to which she loved to dance and leap about the house.) She was a master of trivia questions and probably would have won hands down on a game show. Moselle loved to read, especially scary fiction. She loved Nori seaweed and once called hushpuppies "Dog balls" as a child, resulting in much hilarity. She knew CPR and used it to revive a toddler/cousin who had fallen into the pool, keeping calm & focused in a crisis. She knew how to sew and loved to draw, especially cartoons of Disney characters. Moselle was on her way to becoming a tattoo artist, incorporating characters from her favorite movie Nightmare Before Christmas. Moselle struggled to overcome opiate addiction for many years but learned to reach out for treatment. She was an advocate against injustice and stood strong to love (and love hard) those who were fortunate enough to be called her friend. Services are pending and will be private.
