Judith "Judy" Louise Hickey
September 20, 1941 - January 22, 2021
On Friday, January 22nd, 2021, Judith (Judy) Louise Hickey loving and strong wife, mother of 3, and grandmother of 7 passed away at the age of 79. Judy was born on September 20, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Elizabeth Fischer (mother) and Everett Kittel (father). Judy was a graduate of Carl Schurz High School and attendee of Michigan State University. On October 13, 1962, she married Thomas Patrick Hickey and for 58 years they created a supporting and strong household. She is survived by her husband Thomas, three children, Elizabeth (Beth), Thomas (Tommy), and Margret (Peggy), and 7 grandchildren Jacqueline Krejnik, Samantha Krejnik, Nicholas Marlow, Madeline Hickey, Sean Hickey, Grace Marlow, and Jack Hickey. Since a young age Judy flourished in the world of figure skating. Coaching for 30+ years, she was a long-standing member of the Chicago Figure Skating Club. Her coaching reached far beyond that of ice and blades, shaping the lives of countless students that looked up to her tenacity and strength as an individual and athlete. Opening her home and heart to any, she was more than a mother and a coach. She was a kind host to every person that entered her and Tom’s house. Greeted with the smells of one of her amazing meals or the sound of laughter and music, she created a home that was the life of the party. Tom’s retirement as a detective from the Chicago Police Department brought the party to Palm Harbor, Florida. With open doors and sunny skies, family and friends followed for summer vacations, not so snowy Christmas parties, or just a weekend ride in the convertible to get a grouper sandwich at Frenchy’s. From a young age Judy has always had a strong love and bond with animals especially her beloved Schnauzers. Nothing brought Judy more joy than sitting in the kitchen sipping a Stoli on the rocks (with an extra glass of ice) watching a Lifetime movie with an animal perched on her lap. A true matriarch in every way, she has shaped the lives of her family and friends in more ways than imaginable. Her legacy will live on in so many ways, more than she ever knew. Whether it was finding a perfect inside edge in a figure or knowing what measurement translated to “a little bit of this, a little bit of that” Judy was always a phone call away to give support and guidance. We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, a barrel and a heap, we hope you are resting peacefully in your sleep.
