James Jeremiah Sullivan Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

James Jeremiah Sullivan, age 76, of Portage, formerly of Miller Beach, passed away May 16, 2022. He was born on April 26, 1946 to Michael and Mary Sullivan in Gary, IN. A first generation American, he attended Holy Angels Grade School and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1965. As a young man, Jim began to work in the steel industry. He started as a crane operator and later, after attending trade school, he retired as an electrician at Mittal Steel after 46 years of service. He was a member of Local 6787 Burns Harbor IN. Jim was a lifelong member of the Friendly Sons of Erin. He worked hard and provided his family with a life free of want. He met another first generation American, Mary Samardzrij and they married. They were blessed with two sons-Michael and Jimmy. The Sullivan’s lived in Miller Beach IN for many years and then to Portage, IN where their family grew to include many beloved furry “children” -Eric, Fagen, Mario, Duke, and Jim’s beloved loyal friend-Charlie. Jim was a good son, a good Catholic, a good husband and father, and a loving grandfather to his precious grandson-Jack, whom he will watch over from above. Jim was loved and we will miss him every day. He was preceded in death by his parents-Michael and Mary; brother-Daniel. Jim is survived by his wife-Mary; sons-Michael and Jimmy; grandson-Jack; sister-Eileen Sullivan. A lifelong Democrat, he encouraged all good Democrats to get out and VOTE!!
