George Daniel Hrnjak Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George Daniel Hrnjak, age 80, of Hobart, passed away June 28, 2022 at St. Mary Medical Center surrounded by his wife, daughters, son and grandson. He was born January 12, 1942 in Gary Indiana, the son of George and Araminta M (Foster) Hrnjak. George was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School, Class of 1960. Following graduation, he served with the US Marine Corps. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Dian Waffler, and they settled in Gary where they raised their family. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in March. After the Marine Corps, George became a Gary Police Officer where he was head of the bomb squad, he then advanced to Lake County Sheriff Deputy and also was director of the Bureau of Identification for Lake County. He spent many years serving the community in law enforcement. George was a loyal member of the Marine Corp League- Howlin Mad Detachment of Merrillville, IN In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter- Debra Sue Hrnjak; two sisters-Hope Bianco and Michelle Feinstein. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Ruth (Waffler) Hrnjak, are his daughters- Lisa Dianne Feliciano of Colorado, Dawn Marie Percy and her husband Robert James Percy, Jr of Colorado, Tracy Lynn Kimmel and her husband Donovan Ray Kimmel of Demotte Indiana, Cory Alexander Hrnjak of Demotte Indiana; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. George also leaves behind his beloved pets Peanut, Chica, Jello and Gidget and his grand puppy Snoopy. Memorial visitation for George will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 2:00 p.m., until the time of memorial service at 4:00 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart, Fr.
