Basil R Newport

August 31, 1956 - December 13, 2020

Basil R. Newport, 64, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on December 13, 2020, with his beloved niece Mellody at his side. He was born in Gary, Indiana to Esther and Dillon Newport who precedes him in his transition to paradise. Basil was an active lifelong member of the Liverpool Baptist Church where he would play the flute and sing songs for the congregation to honor the Lord. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Basil also enjoyed photography, art, his Native American history, the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team, and the natural beauty of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Left to cherish these memories of Basil is his survived sisters; Catharine Newport, and Mary (Paul Hurst) Newport; brothers; Jim Newport, John (Debbie) Newport; nieces; Charla Newport, Mellody Newport, and Rebecca Newport; nephew; Christopher Newport; great-niece; Marja Woods; great-nephews; Nathaniel Woods, Sean Johnson, Caleb Sharp, and Ayden Sharp; his add-on children: Anastacio ‘Andy’ Duran, Ruby Duran, Megan (Jonathan) Rael, and Justin Duran; his add-on grandchildren: Jonathan Rael Jr., Viola Rael, and Madeline Rael; and a loving addition of cousins, other relatives, and dearest friends. Basil fought the good fight, has finished the race, has kept the faith as the Lord stood by him and strengthened him. The Lord has rescued him and brought him safely into his heavenly kingdom. To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen. 2 Timothy 4:7;17-18 Inspired A memorial service in his honor is to be determined at a later date. The family requests any donations be made to Catharine Newport at 303 W. 80th Pl #11233 Merrillville, In 46410. Burns Funeral Home (Hobart) entrusted with arrangements. www.burnsfuneral.com.
