Theodore "Ted" Scott Collins

Theodore (Ted) Scott Collins died on December 5th, 2022 after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Ted was born on June 25, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, and engaged and entertained teachers and students alike at Holy Angels in Gary and St. Mary’s in Crown Point. He graduated from Crown Point High School in 1976. After serving four years in the United States Navy on the USS Yosemite, he took his welding skills into the private sector. Ted’s likability and social skills led him to sales, and he eventually received an undergraduate degree in Psychology, followed by an MBA, an MA in Social Work, and a MSW in Social Work and Addiction from Loyola University. Ted extended his love and concern for others by helping people as a Career Counselor at Intake Chicago, working in Social Work and Addiction at Catholic Charities Chicago as well as Resurrection Behavioral Health, and as a Human Services Caseworker and Social Worker for the State of Illinois. He played bass in a number of bands around Chicago in his 20’s and 30’s, competed in Triathlons throughout the country for many years, and led meetings for those in recovery. Ted leaves behind his loving wife Palika Maneelap Collins and son Eric Collins of Chicago, daughter Brigid Collins of Washington State, Brothers Cary J. (Sue) Collins of Phelps, WI, Tim (Alisa) Collins of Golden, CO, Sisters Cathy Collins of Montezuma, IN and Libby Collins (Tony) Ryan of Elm Grove, WI. Ted was preceded in death by his parents Richard & Betty Collins of Crown Point and Valparaiso, IN, Brother Tom Collins of Algonquin, IL, Brother-in-law Warren Freiberg of Schererville, IN, Nephew Alex Collins of Denver, CO, Cousin Ret. Col. Mike Collins of Coldwater, MI as well as maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts and uncles. Ted also leaves behind a niece and nephews including Sean Collins of Black River Falls, WI, Warren Christopher Freiberg of Dyer, IN, Robert Collins of Boulder, CO and Marilyn Collins of Denver, CO and many cousins. Fun-loving and mischievous, Ted never spoke unkindly of anyone, and wishes love and happiness to all he leaves behind.
