Tamara Penelope Murray

Tamara “Tam” Murray (nee Cozza), age 80, of Crown Point, IN passed away on December 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Renton, WA, raised in East Chicago, IN, and graduated from Hammond High in 1962. On June 14, 1963, Tamara Cozza and Charles “Chuck” Murray were married and soon began a family. This year they celebrated their 61st anniversary. In 1975 they moved to Lakes of the Four Seasons with their children, Pam, Dan, and Brad, where Tam enjoyed belonging to LOFS Dinner Club and Pinochle Group. As a member of PAHLS (People Against Hazardous Landfill Sites) for more than two decades, Tam served as a board member and made numerous trips to Indianapolis to work on environmental issues. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church for over 40 years. Tam retired from Corporate Engineering, Inc. in 2008 after 25 years as the company’s CFO. Since retirement Tam spent her time lunching with her friends, making delicious meals for her family, and enjoying the local casinos with Chuck, her sister Blythe, and her cousin Cathy Kranz. Tam’s memory will be cherished by her loving husband, Chuck, and their children, Pam (Dave) Van Dorn, Dan (Bridgette) Murray, and daughters-in-law, Sherry Murray and Vicki Murray. She will be especially missed by her sister, Blythe Cozza and her brother, Peter (Patti) Cozza. She showered love on her lucky grandchildren, Kimberly Houser, Kaitlyn (Cole) Blessing, Justin (Crystal) Van Dorn, Kyle (Monica) Van Dorn, Sierra (Clayton) Murray-Carr, Sequoia Murray, Cray Murray, Dane Murray, Bradley Anders, Ty (Victoria) Murray, and Jadon Murray and her great-grandchildren, Haidyn and Hadley Houser, Ellison Blessing, Lucas, Eli, and Gage Van Dorn, Athena and Aryes McKeown, Brody Murray, and Henry Murray. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irene Cozza (nee Kaminski); her son, Brad Murray; her grandsons, Canyon Murray and Danny McKeown; and her great-granddaughter, Vivienne Blessing. For her remaining family it is hard to imagine a world without our wife, sister, mom, and grandma. One of Tam’s greatest joys was feeding her family and friends – walking through The Murray’s front door meant you were offered food. We will honor her by trying our best to recreate her pasta sauce and by keeping the family together, always. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 10 a.m. directly at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 509 W. Division Road, Valparaiso, IN. Rev. Michael Kopil officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, 1505 Morthland Drive, Valparaiso, IN.
