Ruben A. Vargas

Ruben A. Vargas, age 56 of Schererville, Indiana, passed away suddenly due to Covid on January 4, 2022, at 2:48 p.m. Ruben’s wife and children were by his bedside during those last moments while also allowing his siblings and loved ones a chance to say their goodbyes as well. He was born on December 4, 1965, in East Chicago, Indiana to Ruben D. Vargas and Linda Castellano-Vargas. Ruben was an amazing man, father, husband, brother, uncle, son, father-in-law and friend. He was a graduate of Calumet High School and Ivy Tech. Ruben was a member of Pipefitters Local No. 597 and a member of LAMA Latin American Motorcycle Association. He is preceded in death by his father, Ruben D. Vargas and his sister-in-law, Trina A. Vargas. Ruben is survived by his loving wife, Michelle L. Vargas; his four children: Paige N. Shaffer-Vargas, Angel D. Vargas, Dominique R. Vargas and Julian T. Vargas; grandchildren: Camilla J. Evans and Camille R. Evans; his mother, Linda (Leland) Vargas- Curtis; his siblings: Linda (Phillip) Lopez, Jesse (Amanda) Vargas, Reynaldo (Trina) Vargas, Precious (Anthony) Perez, many nieces and nephews. Words from his loving wife: Twenty-eight years ago Ruben and I were just strangers. Not long after coming into each other’s lives, we fell in love. Our love was and will be everlasting. From our marriage, kids, families, and our memories, I know you will continue to push us on and protect us. As the past fades and the present goes by in slow motion, I know the future will continue on, yet I do and will always love you. Thank you for being my soulmate, the most amazing father to our kids, and nonetheless having the biggest, most open heart to each and every one of us. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, Crown Point. Interment Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Contributions may be made to the family for medical expenses. Floral arrangements are welcome as well. The family would appreciate masks be worn when hugging the family.
