Roger Louis Stiles

Roger Louis Stiles, resident of Crown Point, IN, was born on July 12, 1930, the youngest son of Stanley and Marion Stiles of Rockford Illinois. Roger, aged 93 years, passed away peacefully at St. Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point, Indiana on Sunday, November 26, 2023, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth, mother of his four sons, and his second wife, Phyllis, and his older brother, Arthur Stiles, and sister, Virginia Strong. He is survived by his current wife, Carol, and by his four sons, Doug (Dawn), Dave (Sue), Loren, and Bob (Leann). He is grandfather to 17 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren. Roger graduated from West High School in Rockford, Illinois with the class of 1948. He continued his education at the University of Wyoming. He served in the National Guard prior to enlisting in the Navy during the Korean War. He met and married Ruth Ingrassia while in the Navy. They began raising their four sons in Rockford, Illinois, then moved to the Chicago area, where he worked for Gerber Products Company, retiring after 36 years of service. He loved pitching fast-pitch softball and was proud of leading his Navy team to a championship, and he continued to pitch for many years after. He was also an avid golfer and bowler and was still playing strong until 2022. He even bowled a 300 game in his 80’s. His true passion was loving God and living a life of service to him. He served his local church in various capacities, including as an elder, and as a treasurer. He volunteered with numerous Christian ministries, including Youth with A Mission, Pioneers, Pacific Garden Mission, and Christian Booksellers Association. Most importantly, what earmarked his life was that he didn’t just talk about his faith, he lived it out. He would often reach out to those he sensed were in need and offer a helping hand. He had a heart for those that were hardest to love. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. directly at Crown Point Christian Reform Church, 909 East Greenwood Avenue, Crown Point, IN. Rev. Fred DeJong officiating. Luncheon at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Rockford, IL.
