Roberta Walters

Roberta Walters, age 87, of Hobart, IN sadly passed away on June 30, 2025. She was born on November 23, 1937 in a small, farm town called Liletown, KY to Genevieve Clawson and Marvin Scott. She was the oldest of three children, including her sisters Linda (Donald) Smith of Covington, IN and Paulette (Earl) Watkins of Danville, IL. She was know to her family and close friends as "Bert". She will be remembered for her country cooking skills and sharing it with family and friends. Since she grew up on a farm, she took pride in cooking everything from scratch. Her specialties were fried chicken, chicken and noodles, and the best 4-layer German Sweet Chocolate Cake on the planet. Growing up on a farm, she was an avid gardener and knew how to grow many vegetables and flowers from seed. She really had a green thumb and could bring any plant back to life. She was truly a nurturer. She married and made the brave move from farm life to the big city of Chicago where she raised four children, Robinette Hein, Douglas Walters, Jeanette Vessell, and Joseph Walters. She also took pride in becoming the president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Breman Post in Tinley Park, IL during the 1970's. She also had a passion and love for creating hand-made quilts. She put her heart and soul into each unique design and it filled her heart with much happiness and love for her family. Her quilts will be cherished forever. After raising her children, she worked in the retail business (Kmart and Walmart) for about 30 years. She was always cheerful and pleasant to everyone. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas Walters; sister, Paulette Watkins; son in-law, Russell Hein. Surviving are her children, daughter, Robinette (Russell) Hein; daughter, Jeanette Vessell; son, Joseph (Ami) Walters; sister, Linda (Donald) Smith. She has ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th Street, Hobart, IN.
