Robert B. Nutt, age 85, of Crown Point, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Bob was a graduate of Kokomo High and Purdue University and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Purdue Alumni Association. He was a member of McKinley Lodge #712, Schererville, Scottish Rite, South Bend, the Orak Shrine, the Rah Eese Shrine Unit and the Royal Order of Jesters in Michigan City. Bob was a 27 year member of the Dyer Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Dyer Lion’s Club, Dyer Noon Lion’s Club, Crown Point Lion’s Club, Dyer Business Men’s Association, Dyer Chamber of Commerce and Schererville Chamber of Commerce. Bob was involved with the Calumet Council of Boy Scouts in Munster, a Scoutmaster for 18 years for Troop 27 in Dyer, a member of the National Eagle Scout Association in Washington, DC, a member of ADA of Trade Winds in Hammond, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Merrillville, and a member of the Innsbrook Country Club in Merrillville. He was a member of the Indiana Society of Chicago, University Club and Diggers and Duffers. Bob was employed as an Engineer for the Detroit Stoker Company in Chicago for 2 years and Roy C. Clark, Inc. in East Chicago for 3 years. He was an insurance agent with Bankers Life Company in Des Moines, IA for 5 years, owner of Dyer Insurance Agency in Dyer for 35 years and Executive Vice President of Bekan Insurance Agency in Schererville for 11 years. He was a member of Independent Insurance Agents of America, Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana and Independent Insurance Agents of Calumet. He was preceded in death by 3 wives, Marilyn J., Della J. and Janet Draper Nutt, parents, Asher L. and Carol L. Nutt, step-son Gerald L. Miller, and granddaughter Anne Marie Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Phipps Nutt of Crown Point; his daughters, Barbara (Alan) Boncyk and Elizabeth A. (Melvin) Granger; step-daughters, Nancy A. (Stanley) Wagner, Janie (Thomas) Bell, Laura (Michael) Ryan, Kay (Jose) Ramirez, Nancy (David) Sternberg, and Karen (John) Giordano; step-sons, Jeffrey A. (Nancy) Draper, John M. (Sally) Draper and Joel K. (Cheri) Draper; grandchildren, Robert R. (Vanessa) Wagner, Russell R. (Jarica) Frink, Kathryn Black, Kelly (Matthew) Cruse, Gregory & Dana Granger, Jennifer, Andrew, Molly & Gabriel Draper, Ashley (Chris) Butler, Hannah (Chris) Wittrig, Jacqueline, Samantha, John M. III, & Grace Draper, Brandie (Matt) Petlovany, Lindsey Bell, Meaghan Ryan, Matthew (Lindsey) Ryan, William (Rachael) Ryan, Jack Ryan, Erin & Tessa McGuan, Nathan, Kalli, Arielle Sternberg, Samantha & Jack Giordano, Kelly (Paul) Boncyk Asseff, and Katie Boncyk; great-grandchildren, Joshua J. (Justine) Hines, Jayna Frink, Emily Black, Caleb Frink, Malachi, Isaiah & Lilly Butler, Emerson Petlovany, Yasmeen Asseff, Jack Cruse, Dylan & Joel Frink; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Rev. Dan Barnum-Steggerda officiating. Service will terminate at the funeral home. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home.
