Philip L. "Les" McMahon

Philip L. “Les” McMahon, age 83, of Frankfort, formerly of Midlothian, passed away July 25, 2023 in Dyer, IN. Les was born on October 3, 1939, in Chicago, IL to Roy and Catherine McMahon. After attending grade school at Sacred Heart School in Chicago, he graduated from Calumet High School in 1957. In 1961, Les married the love of his life, Karen (nee Palm,) and they were married 61 years at the time of his passing. Together they raised their four children in Midlothian IL. Les enjoyed reading, watching Charlie Chan and the Adventures of Sherlock Homes on Sunday afternoons on Family Classics television. He worked various jobs until he settled at Nalco Chemical Company, where he eventually retired in 1996. After his retirement, he and his wife, Karen, enjoyed taking trips to Sanibel, FL, several cruises and just being together. Les would say the turning point in his life is when he came to Christ in the 70’s. His faith changed the family dynamic for the better and his and Mom’s faith became the center of the household. He had a strong compassion for the intellectually disabled and taught Sunday School class for many years focusing on this particular group. It is because of Dad and Mom’s faith that we know when he passed that we have the assurance that we will see him again. Les will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-Patricia (late Robert); in-laws whom he loved very much- Clarence (Elsie) Palm; brother-in-law- Richard (late Diane) Palm. He is survived by his wife of 61 years-Karen; four children-Kathleen (Mark) Farmer, Philip (Linda) McMahon, Karen (Timothy) McNally, Lisa (James) Walsh; grandchildren-Brian Farmer, Megan Farmer, Lauren (fiancée Andrew) Farmer, Jacob Farmer and Sean Farmer, Ryan McMahon, Sean McMahon, John (Briana) McNally, Cullen (Halissia) McNally, Brenna (Alex) Baker, Kyle Walsh, Catherine Walsh, Mark Walsh; great grandchildren-Timber and Flora McNally; sister-Jean (Jack) McAndrews; brother and sister-in-law-Ed (Kathleen) Englert; brother-in-law-Robert Palm; many loving nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank Dyer Nursing and Rehab and especially Franciscan Hospice for their care and support of Les in his final days. There will be a Memorial Luncheon for Les in September.
