Nancy M. Riesmeyer

Nancy Moore Riesmeyer, age 83, of Crown Point, IN left her earthly home on June 9, 2010, to join her mother, Verna Moore, father William Moore and sister Ruth Tout in her new heavenly home. She is survived by her husband, Herman, daughter, Pamela, son, Jeffrey (Amy), daughter, Jill (Gary) Vandermarks; sisters, Betty (Donald) Youkers, Marjorie Denning; brothers, Richard (Carla) and William (Lowanda) Moore; grandsons, Andrew and Benjamin Riesmeyer and step-grandchildren, Dylan, Terran and Asher Marks and Lela, Anna and Joey Roesler, and many nieces and nephews. Nancy left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Through her caring and outreach, she taught her children and grandchildren compassion and strength. A nurse for many years, she ministered at the Cleveland Clinic, Philadelphia Children’s Hospital and the Lake County Convalescent Home. She received her nurse’s training at Suburban General Hospital in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1947. She retired from nursing the first time in 1952 to raise a family, returning to her love of serving others from 1973 to 1984. She later used her creative genius over many years touching the lives of cancer patients as she made hats for them. Her laughter and childlike appreciation for the wonders of God’s world infused others with that same light. The love she shared will live through all of us who celebrate her life. With gratitude and thanksgiving, we have been overwhelmed by the love and gifts that have been shared throughout her illness. A special thanks to the nurses and staff at St. Anthony Medical Center, all personnel at the Burrell Radiation and Chemotherapy Cancer Center, Franciscan Homecare Services and Needs a Helping Hand. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet St, Crown Point, IN on Tuesday June 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Rich Litzau, officiating. Interment at Historic Maplewood Cemetery in Crown Point. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Nancy will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (time of service). Memorial contributions may be made to Southlake County Community Services or St. Paul Catholic Center in Bloomington, Indiana
