Melvina Irene Motta

Melvina Irene Motta (née Murawski) age 92, longtime resident of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away with her family by her side, on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Melvina is survived by her four loving children, David (Claudia) Motta, Barbara (Dale) Moeller, Robert (Kelly Kosinski) Motta, and Diane (Fred) Reynolds; grandchildren: Teresa ( Brett) Rice, Angela (Todd) Martizna, Meg ( Brian) Damato, Tyler Motta, Ryan Kosinski, Joseph Reynolds, John Paul Reynolds and Matthew (Stefanie) Kosinski; great grandchildren: Mia Rice, Sophia Rice, Bianca Damato, Gabriella Damato, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and sister, Esther "Rusty" Komechak. Preceded in death by loving husband, Thomas M. Motta; son, Thomas A. Motta; grandson, Marcus Thomas Moeller; parents, Edward and Irene Murawski; and sisters, Patricia Peloza and Judy Murawski. Mel attended Emerson High School, ’51, where she not only made lifelong friends but also met the love of her life, Tom, the quarterback. She later helped plan the reunions which kept her classmates together for a lifetime. Mel and Tom married after high school, settled in Gary and raised their family. A great opportunity arose for Tom to become the Director of Marketing at Verson Europa. And, away they went with their family on their adventure to Brussels, Belgium. Mel raised their 5 children while Tom dealt with all the challenges at work. Quite a responsibility in a foreign land with 5 children to assimilate into the culture pool. Mel proved to be a pillar of strength for the family. A mother’s love is the greatest gift of all and is unconditional and without limits. Mel’s biggest joy in life was being a mom, grandma and Ma. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, was endless. We are so grateful for all the memories we share. Melvina will be missed by all, but her memory will live on. May love surround you, mom, and bring you peace. You will remain in our hearts forever. Friends may visit with the family for a memorial visitation on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 p.m. Inurnment at Calumet Park Cemetery, 2305 W. 73rd Avenue, Merrillville, IN.
