Melissa Ann Danapas

Melissa Ann Danapas (nee Orosz) age 58, of Portage, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026. She was born in Valparaiso, Indiana, and was a lifelong Indiana resident who touched the lives of so many people with her big personality, loving heart, and unforgettable presence. Melissa attended Edison High School before continuing her education at Purdue University. She was a woman who loved life and found joy in the things that made her happy. She could often be found with a good book, watching her favorite television shows, or getting lost in the worlds of Harry Potter and Twilight. She was a true Gryffindor at heart and proudly Team Edward. Those who knew Melissa knew she was anything but quiet. She was loud, talkative, full of personality, and loved to sing. Her voice and laughter could fill a room, and her presence was impossible to overlook. Melissa had a youthful spirit and absolutely loved being around children because, at heart, she was a kid herself. She knew how to have fun, make people laugh, and bring energy wherever she went. Above all else, Melissa loved her family. She would do anything for the people she loved and was always there when they needed her. Her love, strength, humor, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Melissa was preceded in death by her beloved son, Trent Miranda; her mother, Yvonne Lara (Monacy); her husband, Michael Danapas; her sister, Vicki Orosz; and her father, Phillip Orosz. She leaves behind her daughter, Tera (Ericka) Betancourt; her sister, Lisa (Dan) Ketwig; and her brothers, Jose (Jeanette) Gonzales, Marco Gonzales, TJ Monacy, Phil (Nicole) Orosz, Joshua (Tess) Waytovich, and Paul (Karin) Waytovich. Melissa also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Ava, Letty, Joey, Mason, Lilly, and Damian, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, Pastor Greg and Penny Tucker, extended family members, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts. Melissa's life was filled with love, laughter, stories, songs, and a personality that could never be forgotten. Though her time with us has come to an end, the memories she created and the love she gave will continue through the people she leaves behind.
