Linda Grube Eisenhauer: A Life of Love, Laughter, and Service. Linda Grube Eisenhauer passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2024. She was a beloved friend, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dedicated community servant. Born in Logansport, Indiana, Linda was the daughter of the late Donald J. and Isabel (Murdock) Grube. She grew up with her three sisters, enjoying an idyllic childhood filled with rides on the Cass County Dentzel Carousel, shopping trips to Marshall Field’s, escapades at Logansport High School, and summers at Camp Osoha and the cottage at Stop 30 in Long Beach, Indiana. She made lasting friends and developed a deep appreciation for the value of family, community, and culture. Linda's life reflected the power of love and the importance of curiosity. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Northwestern University, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega women’s fraternity. After graduating, she married her college sweetheart, Ronald G. Eisenhauer, in 1961, and they enjoyed 59 beautiful years together. They raised their only child, Donald, and were thrilled when he attended Northwestern University. Their life—first in Miller, then Merrillville, and finally, Lakes of the Four Seasons—was filled with music, art, parties, gardening, travel, sporting events, and always, friends and family. Ron affectionately called Linda “Energizer Bunny” and “Full Charge” as she was larger-than-life. Teaching fifth grade was one of Linda’s most satisfying accomplishments, and she delighted in chance encounters with former students, pleased to remember their names. She loved teaching about the U.S. Constitution, democracy, and American history. Later, Linda used her knowledge about government when she was elected to the Winfield Township Board, most recently serving as President. Linda was an avid reader and wonderfully opinionated about current events, popular culture, and Northwestern University athletics. Linda passionately supported numerous arts, cultural, and educational organizations that enriched the lives of others. She was a charter member of the Women’s Association of the Northwest Indiana Symphony (WANISS) and a founding member of the Regional Arts Council. Linda was a long-standing member of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Board and the Women’s Board of the Chicago Symphony, fulfilling her love for music. She celebrated 60 years of membership in Tri Kappa and rarely missed a meeting of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Since the pandemic, Linda gladly participated in virtual seminars with the Alumnae Board of Northwestern University, although she missed being in the same room with the lecturers. Linda was a devoted member of many organizations, clubs, committees, and boards, and often assumed a leadership role; her work ethic, dedication, and creative flair guaranteed success. Linda's love for gatherings was legendary. She had an extraordinary talent for bringing people together. Her home was often the center of social events, from Fourth of July fireworks to sunset cocktail cruises to holiday teas to steel drum performances. Linda’s knack for hospitality, coupled with her infectious laughter and genuine interest in others, made every event memorable. She believed in the power of togetherness and cherished the connections she made throughout her life. Friends remember Linda as an indomitable force, a treasure, a beacon of positivity and elegance, and one-of-a-kind. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel special and valued. Whether through a heartfelt note, a thoughtful gesture, or simply a listening ear, Linda had a way of touching lives and lifting spirits. Her friendships were many and varied, spanning decades and encompassing people from all walks of life. Linda’s friends knew they could always count on her for support, advice, and a good laugh. Her warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Linda is survived by her son, Donald (Mary Jane), and her grandchildren: Mary Frances, George, and Harriet, to whom she was an adoring “LaLa.” She is also survived by her sisters, Jane (Jim) David and Martie (Frederick “Rick,” deceased) Roehm, along with numerous nieces, nephews, close friends, and her loyal Abyssinian cat, Abby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald J. and Isabel Grube; her husband, Ronald, and her sister, Carolyn (William, deceased) Rucker. Linda's family and friends were her greatest fortune, and she took immense pride in their achievements and happiness. Her legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to be an inspiration for generations to come. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, Crown Point, IN. Interment will follow immediately at Historic Maplewood Cemetery, 347 Maple Lane, Crown Point, Indiana.
