Leonard Pryweller

Leonard (Len) Pryweller Len Pryweller, 89, of Gary, Indiana (Miller Beach) passed away peacefully at home just short of his 90th birthday. He is survived by his brother, Seymour (Sy) Pryweller of Florida; 3 nephews: Michael (Sandy) Simons of Florida, Barry (Felice) Simons of Florida and Mark (Cheryl) Simons of New York; Best friend, Jan Potasnik and many cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, David and Sally (Baskin) Pryweller and sister, Esther Simons. Len was born in Chicago, Illinois but grew up in Gary where he attended Emerson then graduated from Horace Mann High School. He graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Marketing. While at I.U. Len was a member of the ZBT Fraternity and rode in the Little 500. He then joined the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant Tank Commander in the 10th Infantry Division. After the service Len did a stint as a traveling salesman through the Chicago Merchandise Mart selling the Nebish line across 3 states. He became a Real Estate Broker and operated Len Pryweller Realty for over fifty years. He served in many organizations and leadership positions in the City of Gary and Miller Communities over the years including the Gary Music Theater, Chairman of the Gary Chamber of Commerce, President and Board Member of the Miller Citizen’s Corporation, Miller Business Association and the Temple Israel Board. Len was an avid runner and exercise enthusiast for most of his life and participated in all of the local communities’ festival runs. He enjoyed Jazz and was known for playing his Gut Bucket at parties and the clever poetry he wrote for family and friends—-A good, kind, humble person with a great dry sense of humor who will be truly missed. A private graveside service was held on December 16th. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held in the near future to accommodate his family and friends.
