Larry Sherman Jackman

Larry Sherman Jackman, age 86, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026. He was born on August 13, 1939, in Gary, Indiana. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska; an experience he held close with great pride throughout his life. He dedicated many years to the automotive industry as a body man, beginning his career at Shaver Chevrolet and later working at Carroll Chevrolet for many years. He went on to manage a small body shop in Valparaiso before continuing his career at Hirsch Ford Lincoln Mercury in Michigan City. Even after retirement, Larry’s passion never slowed. He spent his time in his own shop, where he took great joy in teaching his grandson the trade. Larry had a love of fishing, working on cars, and flying his plane. He was known for his kind and generous spirit, paired with a hint of stubbornness that those who loved him knew well. Above all, Larry’s greatest treasure was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, especially the time he shared spoiling his great-grandchildren. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; not only to his family by blood, but also to the many he welcomed as chosen family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia; his daughter, Joyce (Kip); his granddaughter, Kassie (Brandon); and his grandson, Kris (Taylor). He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Levi, Hudson, Gracie, and Lincoln; his sister, Patricia Baker, and her children, Alan and Jimmy; his sister-in-law, Grace Gallagher, and her children, John Gallagher (Tanya) and Gregg (Karel); as well as several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Cornelieus Jackman; his father, Harry Jackman (and his wife June); his in-laws, Michael and Frances Johnson; and his brother-in-law, John Gallagher. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, Indiana 46307 from 3pm-7pm. Funeral will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 10am at Burns Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Crown Point.
