Juanita Lynn Farley

Juanita Lynn Farley (née McKenzie), 64, of Crown Point, IN passed away on the morning of November 9, 2023, peacefully surrounded by family. “Nita” regarded her sons as her greatest accomplishments. Known for her sharp wit and directness, Juanita's warm and welcoming nature made her home the hub of family gatherings. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel at home and was proud to extend her maternal care to nephews and nieces. Nita was born in Carmi, Illinois. Her parents relocated the family to Crown Point when she was a child. Except for an eight-month adventure in Lowell, Massachusetts during the mid-1980s, she lived in Crown Point for the rest of her life. She graduated from Crown Point High School in 1977 and dedicated her life to service. Her career spanned various roles, from retail to transportation. She worked for the Crown Point School System and the Post-Tribune for many years. She found her calling in recent years as a dispatcher for Lake County Community Services, a charitable organization devoted to providing transportation for those in need. An avid reader, Juanita loved delving into mysteries and romances. She enjoyed camping, spending time outdoors in the shade, and had a green thumb that mirrored her nurturing spirit. She also liked cooking, sewing, and antiquing. Her laughter and joy in simple pleasures left a lasting impression on all who knew her. In 1982, she married Mark Long, with whom she had two sons. They divorced in 1995. In 1999, she married Michael Farley. They were happily married until his passing in 2021. She was also preceded in death by her mother Violet McKenzie (2011). She is survived by her sons Kyle (Stacie) and Matthew Long, granddaughter Audrey Long, father Ray (Marilyn) McKenzie, and sister Dawn (Mark) Zaragoza. Nita’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and community. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all those whose lives she touched. Reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others, donations in Juanita's memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Rheumatology Research Foundation, and Lake County Community Services, Inc.
