Janet Rae Winland

Janet Rae (Camp) Winland, age 84, a Loving and Supportive Sister, Mother, and Grandma (Oohoo), Fighter, Saint, and Pillar of Strength, passed on May 3, 2025. She was surrounded by her best little sister and her full adoring brood. Janet always loved those rare occasions when her five children were able to appear in the same location, and she would be proud and grateful to announce that fortunately all made it to see her off on this day. Janet was tough as iron, had a great benevolent sense of humor, compassion, and understanding, but no patience for nonsense. She was full of love for her elders and parents, her siblings, and most of all for her kids for whom she would (and did) do everything. Janet was born in Hammond and raised in Hessville, IN, and attended OLPH Parochial School and Morton High. Janet survived raising her five kids mostly solo and earned her degree in Accounting at Ivy Tech (and the undying admiration of her family) while doing so. She then stayed in the workforce until the age of 72 because she thoroughly loved accounting and the people she worked with, especially her bestie to the last, Sharon. Janet loved camping with family in the summer and traveling to places like Michigan, Florida, and her sunroom in the Poconos. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and bowling, and was a fixture, along with her daughter, at monthly bunko nights for over 30 years. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Edward Camp and mother, Dorothy Camp (Hart). She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Clark (James); sons, William (Tina), Timothy (Natalie), Robert (Darla), James (Jessika); grandchildren, Angela, Amber, Ashley, Alicia, Victoria, Jacob, Nicholas, Abigail, Manuella, Isabel, James; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Camden, Ceagan, Lillian, Lincoln, and Brylen; brother, Edward Camp (Jan); sister, Joan Hall (Sylvester).
