Homer H. Rachford

Homer H. Rachford, age 91, of Valparaiso, passed away on May 2. Homer was born in Browning, Missouri, and was a 1952 graduate of Tolleston High School in Gary. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Homer was employed for a short time at Gary Steel Products, where he met his beloved wife of 55 years, Margaret "Margie" (Gough) Rachford. He later worked as a dedicated Sheet Metal Worker with Local 20 and retired from Vidimos, Inc., where he took great pride in his work for many years. Homer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a longtime member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Herbert and Elizabeth Lucille Rachford; his wife, Margaret M. Rachford; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Victor and Stella Gough; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Charlie Gough, Arnie Gough, Dale Gough, Neville & Mary Ann Gough, Victor & Rosemary Gough, Bill & Donna Solivais, Calvin & June Pettet, Steve Bartok; his great-grandson: Hayden Rachford. He is survived by his children: Bill (Colleen) Rachford of Florida, Paula Rachford (Daughter-In-Law) of Crown Point, Victor Rachford of Crown Point, Susan (Tarik) El-Naggar of Valparaiso, MAJ (R) Loren (Lisa) Rachford of Sanford, NC, John (Michelle) Rachford of Valparaiso, and Kevin Rachford of San Diego, CA; grandchildren: Heather (Seth) Norwalk, Heidi (Joe) Pfeiler, Khalela El-Naggar, Rafeek El-Naggar, Grant (Clarissa) Rachford, Cameron Rachford, Vincent Mogyorossy, Jonathan Rachford, Homer Rachford, and Justina Rachford; and great-grandchildren: Mikylee, Miranda, Molly, Matilyn, Travis, Keira, Ellie, Gavin and Charlie. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Roberta “Boomie” Gough and Barbara Gough, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point. On Friday May 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. a Private Family Burial will take place at Calumet Park Cemetery, 2305 W 73 Avenue, Merrillville, IN 46410.
