George A. Tipold

George A. Tipold 1942 - 2024 George lived his life by his beloved Marine Corps creed, Semper Fidelis. He was always faithful to his tenants of life - God, Family, Corps, & Country. George passed away in Florida on May 23, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born February 9, 1942, in Gary, Indiana to Jacob and Norma Tipold. He is survived by his 3 children, Darlene (Maurice) Dukes (FL), David (Janet) Tipold (IN), and Douglas (Donna) Tipold (IN). His 4 grandchildren Stephen (Samantha) Ketchum (FL), Dr. Marina (Sharpe) Marshall (AL), Cade (Annie) Tipold (AL), and Zach Erdelles (IN), along with all of his grandpets, which were all his best friends. George is also survived by his sister, Lavon (Bill) Barath (OH), numerous nieces and nephews, along with very dear friends from his Shafer Lake days, the Marine Corps, and his fellow Wirt Troopers. George was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Pamela (nee Otte); his parents Jacob and Norma, brother Ray (Arlene), brother Robert (Sandie), and infant brother Stanley. George spent his childhood and school years growing up in Miller Beach and attending Wirt High School. He would meet the love of his life, Pamela, and marry young. He soon would be off to the Marine Corps, where he built his foundation of dedication and discipline. George would return home to NW Indiana to raise his family in Hobart. He worked for Bethlehem Steel, managing the Metallurgy Department, while filling his free time focused on his children, their endeavors and helping make the community a better place. He was very active in the Isaak Walton League, along with being one of the men that resurrected Hobart Pop Warner following a tragic fire many years ago and would serve as President for many years. One thing about George is that he always looked for ways to better the community and society as a whole. He was fortunate enough to enjoy a healthy life full of much happiness. Upon his retirement from Bethlehem Steel, he would find more time to spend focused on his family and especially his grandchildren. He and Pam enjoyed spending time sharing in the joy of their grandchildren’s successes and were always there for them when they failed too. They would soon start their life as snowbirds - flying south to avoid the winters up north and enjoy the warmth of the Florida Gulf sun and waters in the winters. He loved when family would visit and enjoyed the fact that his “lake friends” spent their winters in Florida as well - continuing that friendship throughout his life. He would want to say thanks to the Wirt Trooper group for all the great memories and the lifelong friendships. He especially enjoyed their luncheons and gatherings. Visitation will be held at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street Hobart, Indiana 46342 on Saturday, June 29th, 2024 from 10 am to 12 pm. A memorial service by Pastor Jason Peña will follow at noon.
