George "Biff" "Woody" Woodward

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. George B. Woodward died peacefully at his home on December 29, 2024. George was born on August 7, 1944, to Frank and Sally Woodward. He graduated from Edison High School in 1962, and from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, on June 12, 1967. A veteran of the United States Army, he served from November 1968 through June 1994. Lt. Col. Woodward is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the Army Special Forces as a Green Beret and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Lt. Col Woodward’s friendship with his brothers-in-arms spanned decades. Forged from trust and reliance on one another, he firmly considered those brothers his first family as no greater bond exists than that forged in trust and in protecting each other’s life during battle. Accordingly, Lt. Col. Woodward is survived by: U.S. Marines Retired Major Donald Brodie, U.S. Army Retired Command Sergeant Major David M. Dalton, U.S. Army Retired Captain Boyd L. Davis, U.S. Army Retired Major Lee M. Davis, U.S. Army Retired Captain Robert J. Eggle, U.S. Army Retired Colonel Mike Hess, U.S. Army Retired Colonel JL Kaplan Jr., U.S. Navy Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Tim Quilter, U.S. Air Force Retired Lieutenant Colonel Curt Scott, U.S. Army Retired Captain James Smyth. Many personally knew George B. Woodward as “Biff” or “Woody.” He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the City of Crown Point. He served as a Deacon. He was a distinguished member the “Soup and Serenity” team and was also a vital part of the food pantry. His church friends include Pastor Joaquin Anabe Lopez, Janice, Jim, Jeanne, Donna, Joe, George, Bob W, Mike, Dave, JoAnne, Art, Phyllis, Evan, Bob, Kelly, Barbara, Amy, and Denise. Woody enjoyed traveling, working on his yard or flower gardens, and just being at home with his loyal Boston Terrier, McDuff. He lived a beautiful life and is loved so dearly - Jerry, Shirley, Danny, Millie, Monte, George, Miguel, Tootsie, Frank Rosa, Tom, and Carrie. “Good night sweet prince and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” Visitation to be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Wilkins, officiating. Interment Calumet Park Cemetery.
