Elsie Batryn

Elsie Batryn (1938-2024), loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 7th, 2024. She was a vivacious, charming, and passionate woman who spent her life working as a waitress, bartender, switchboard operator, and manager. She adored Spring, Florida, the beach, and was known to love a gambling boat and a nice chocolate martini. Her presence filled a room, and her laugh was well known to all who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Juanita Robinson, her sister, Patricia Snider, and her son, Vincent Paul. She is also preceded by two husbands, Marshall ‘Buddy’ Paul, and Donald Batryn all of whom she loved deeply. She is survived by her siblings- Jean Marcucci, Bonnie Walters, De Mairson, Debbie Vigil, and Ed Robinson, as well as three of her children, Jeanine Manarpaac, Lisa Renda, and Stacy Paul and her granddaughter, Zoe Paul. She also leaves behind countless extended family members, beloved step-daughters, great-grandchildren. Elsie lived a life full of love and family. She possessed an incredibly creative mind, loving crafts, handiwork, and baking. She was an incredible chef, a shrewd businesswoman and a clever and friendly conversationalist. She adored dogs, and is survived by her youngest, her baby ‘Buddy’. Born in Elmhurst, IL, on January 22nd, 1938, Elsie lived for her children, and later, grandchildren. She loved the sound of the water, and the hush of the ocean. She lived a wild, adventurous life, full of as many experiences as anyone could dream of. She was a fighter who beat cancer and came out swinging through life. She was never far from a cup of coffee and a cigarette, and had a roster of stories from her youth and beyond that she was always eager to tell. She loved children, always stopping to say hello, or entertain whatever little ones cast their gazes her way. She made an unbeatable cheesecake and loved a chocolate soda. She will be dearly and dreadfully missed by all who knew her, and her absence will be sorely felt for the years yet to come. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19th, 2024, 2:00 – 6:00 PM, Funeral service starting at 6:00 PM at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory 701 East 7th Street Hobart, Indiana 46342.
