Edwin Roy Brant Sr.

Edwin Roy Brant, Sr., age 74, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at VNA Hospice, on October 1, 2018, surrounded by his family. Ed was born October 8, 1943 in Gary, Indiana, to Jordan and Audrey Brant, the youngest sibling of four. He graduated from Merrillville Senior High School in 1961 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. Ed had retired as a Plant Operations Manager at Pullman Standard. He was also a professional builder, and master carpenter, who also had master sills as an electrician, plumber, welder, mechanic, and engineer. Ed not only dedicated his life to serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but continued to pass the Word, through his prison ministries for over 10 years, by reaching out to those that have either become lost or need to be found through God’s message. Ed was also an ambassador of The Promise Keeps for many years. He devoted 37 years as a member of the Deep River Church of Christ of Hobart, Indiana. Ed served over 20 years as an Elder and nearly as many as the music director. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and dartball competitor. Ed was also a loyal, diehard Bears and Cubs fan. He had co-founded the annual men’s fellowship fishing trip over 20 years ago. Ed was a jack of all trades and was indeed a master of ALL of them. He designed and built the current auditorium that now so faithfully seats the following worshipers. Ed, however, was most passionate about serving his Lord and helping others in need. He was very determined on passing on a legacy that all will remember him by which was to be known as a fisher of men. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers-Donald, Jordan, and Harold; son-Christopher. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years-Peggy; five sons-Donald (Lisa) of Odessa, DE, Kevin of Las Vegas, NV, Robert of Valparaiso, Edwin Jr. (Lyndi) of Valparaiso, Randall (Kaylee), of Hobart; one daughter-Lori (Bill) Gallagher of Hobart. He is also survived by his special brothers-Eric Walker, Harry Owens, Dave Wenger, Russell Tarkeny; sister-in-laws-Mary Ellen Robison of Valparaiso, Elizabeth Brant of Valparaiso, Patricia Brant of Florida; brother-in-law-Robert (Wanda) Fox of Hobart. Ed will have his family tree continued not only through his children, but through his ten grandchildren. Funeral service for Ed will take place Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m,. at Deep River Church of Christ, 7500 Grand Boulevard, Hobart, with a visitation from 10:30 until the time of service.
