Doris Eileen Laumann

Doris Eileen (nee Craig) Laumann, age 100, of Winfield, Indiana, passed peacefully in her sleep on April 25, 2024. She was born July 29, 1923, in a home birth in Chelan County, Washington State to Floyd and Adeline (Hunter) Craig. Doris was the youngest of 5 siblings. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Electric City, near Grand Cooley Dam, which her father, Floyd, worked on during its construction. Doris grew up on a home-steading farm and graduated high school in a class with 12 other students. She attended beauty school and was later employed as a civilian equipment operator at the military base in Ephrata, Washington. It was there she met the love of her life, Frank Laumann at a Christmas Eve social on the base. Frank and Doris married and settled in Evanston, Illinois and had three sons: Craig, and Neal both of whom preceded her in death, and Bruce (Dorian) with whom Frank and Doris resided for over 30 years. During their 62 years of marriage, Doris and Frank enjoyed many travels over the years throughout Europe, Scandinavia, China, the Middle East, and all fifty states. Doris is survived by her loving family including grandson, Eric A. Laumann, wife, Kaitlyn and their sons, Lincoln, Winston, and Theodore and granddaughter, Jessica A. (Laumann), wife Amanda Correa and their daughter Evelyn. She loved her nieces and nephews, some of whom include Steve, Mark, Patti, Sheryl, Marsha, Dan, and Tony. Doris enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was a member of the African Violet’s Society of Indiana. She enjoyed staying current on events, travel and game shows and working puzzles. Doris was a member of First United Methodist Church of Crown Point and enjoyed many clubs and activities and dear friendships including Pastor Mark Wilkins. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11 am with a gathering of friends in the church hall for a luncheon to follow. Rev. Mark Wilkins officiating. Her cremains, along with those of husband, Frank, will be scattered in Ephrata, Washington.
