Dolores Joan Evans

Dolores J. Evans, age 88, of Crown Point, passed away gently on March 17, 2026. She was born in Gary, IN on November 17, 1937, and lived in Northwest Indiana all her life. Dolores raised her family and lovingly enjoyed her friends, the jobs she had, and her hobbies of gardening, sewing, decorating, and always volunteering through her church ministries or helping anyone with their needs. She always knew how to fill her soul with something good. Dolores had a very special way about her. Kindness and gentleness were her signature, and she always had an open heart and mind for anyone in need. Dolores was generous with her wisdom without ever using many words, and her smile was something everyone took absolute joy in seeing. She loved everyone and she always accepted people exactly where they were. Life was her teacher and she was a person you always learned from by her example. She was filled with faith in God and she trusted in the journey of life itself. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Porter Evans; father, Bruno Setlak; mother, Sophie Setlak; and brother, Daniel Setlak. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Evans (Darlene); daughter, Cheryl Gojko (Peter); granddaughters, Meredith Lisk (Nick), Melissa Newman (Spence); great granddaughters, Remy Lisk, Sally Newman; sister, Jeanette Ballarino (Joe); brother, Rick Setlak (Tammy); niece, Lisa Jarrett (Jerry); nephew, Jacob Setlak (Maria); niece, Jil Taliaferro (Charles); nephew, Todd Evans; nephew, Scott Evans (Angie), nephew, David Evans; great niece, Emily Jarrett; great nephew, John Evans, great nephew, Brett Evans, her aunt, Sally Setlak (Joe), many loving cousins and her lifelong friend, Sandy Samson. Memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. Directly a Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7667 E 109th Ave, Crown Point. Rev. Thomas Mischler officiating.
