It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Chastadie Jewel Lawson (Escalante), lovingly known to family and friends as Chas or Jewel. She departed this world peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024, after an unfathomable battle of stage four Cutaneous Melanoma. A devoted daughter, loving mother, supportive sister, and cherished grandmother, she touched the lives of countless individuals with her boundless kindness, unwavering compassion, and profound love. Chastadie’s legacy of warmth, strength, and generosity will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Chastadie was born October 4, 1982, in Berwyn, Illinois and was the epitome of grace and resilience. She carried the values of family and faith throughout her life's journey. Her presence brought joy and comfort to her family, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled. Chastadie’s love knew no bounds. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing and guiding her children, imparting invaluable wisdom, and instilling in them the importance of empathy, and perseverance. Her unconditional love and unwavering support were the cornerstones of her family, providing a source of strength and inspiration through life's triumphs and challenges. In her role as a grandmother, she radiated boundless love and joy. Chastadie cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, showering them with affection, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Whether baking cookies together, telling stories, or sharing words of wisdom, she treasured every opportunity to impart her love and wisdom upon them and everyone she knew. The ever-true family woman, she was known for keeping everyone’s spirits high and alive. Beyond her roles within her family, she was known for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need, offering a listening ear to a friend in need, or brightening someone's day with her infectious smile, she touched the lives of all who crossed her path. Chastadie attended Morton West High School in Berwyn IL. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking and baking new dishes for her family and the countless people she accepted into her home with love. She found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, and her zest for living was contagious to all who knew her. Chastadie’s laughter, her warmth, and her unwavering optimism illuminated the lives of those around her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resiliency, compassion, and kindness that will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come. She is survived by her fiancée; Demondre Velez, her children; Nicholas Daniel (Alyssa) Alonso, Joseph Sense, Amanni Escalante, 18-month-old, Isaiah Velez mother; Karen Lawson and sisters; Samantha Rios, and Ava Rios. . She is preceded in death by her father; Frankie Maratato, and beloved grandmother; Nan. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched and the memories she created. As we mourn her passing, let us take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones, and watching over us with love from above. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 2, 2024 at Valparaiso Baptist Church, 612 Emmettsburg St. Valparaiso, Indiana.
