Brydon Robert "Butch" Stewart

Brydon Robert “Butch” Stewart was born on July 17, 1959 in Muskegon, MI to the late Richard and Shirley (Willbrandt) Stewart. He passed away peacefully in Merrillville, IN on June 15, 2018 at the age of 58. Brydon is survived by daughters Kasey Stewart, Ashley Phillips, & Nicole Engelbretson, son Cody (Erin) Stewart, granddaughter Gwen Stewart, brothers Ed Stewart, Mark (Anne) Stewart, sisters Wynn Ann (Richard) Czubik & Laura Doxtater, former wife Joan “Joanie” Stewart. He is preceded in death by his sister-in-law Donna Stewart, & brother-in-law Warren “Buddy” Doxtater. Brydon graduated from Lew Wallace High School (Gary, IN) in 1977. He attended Purdue University Calumet and played hockey as a club sport. He worked as a cement finisher with the Cement Masons & Plasterers Local 165 (Griffith, IN). Brydon was a loving father to his children and a generous spirit to his friends and family when in need. His sickness may have prevented him from working for the last several years, but his kindness and unconditional love never wavered. “Failures are just an opportunity to better yourself, always work hard to get the job done and learn as much about the problem before the work starts, show selflessness for those in the worst times of their lives, and keep boundless love for your family no matter what path they may take in life.” These are just a couple lessons he never told us in life, but instead showed us through the way he lived his own life. When things were bad, his passion for fighting always let him escape to a place that calmed and relaxed him. Though his illness prevented him from this escape over the last few months, we can now rest assured the southern winds of the next life are bringing more of a catch than he could ever find here on Earth. We have been lucky to have him as a father and will emulate his greatest qualities in everything we do in our lives as he watches over us. We will miss you Dad, but you will never be forgotten.
