Betty J. Ross

Betty Jean Ross, age 91, of Highland, IN, formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Betty was born on May 3, 1934, in Lowell, IN, and was the 5th of 15 children. She was married to Duwart Glenn Ross on May 1, 1954, and he passed away on February 9, 1995. Betty was a strong woman who liked to work. Her home was always neat and clean, and she especially liked to work outside. She loved to cook and bake, and if you ever left her house hungry, it wasn’t her fault! Her many special Christmas cookies were legendary. Betty had a deep love for her family, and that extended far beyond her children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was born Betty Fox, and her love included the entire extended Fox family, their spouses and children. She loved babies and was at her happiest with a new baby in her arms. Betty never had a lot of money or possessions, but she was very thoughtful and generous with what she had. She was rich in all the things that really matter. The family is grateful for the incredible care she received for many years from her daughter Kim. Betty is survived by her sons, Glenn E. Ross, Dennis (Carolyn) Ross and Michael (Rhonda) Ross, and by her daughter, Kim Holmquist; grandchildren, Tim (Julia) Ross, Michelle (Richard) Gregory, Susan (Kurt) Williams, Stacie (Roger) Erdvig, Ryne Holmquist and Britain (Natalie) Holmquist; great grandchildren, Lincoln, Greyson, Callan, Gibson, Emma, Elizabeth, Richard William, Chad, Kade, Trae, Luke, Roger, Evie and Brynn; siblings, Jerry (Marilyn) Fox and Sandy (Jay) Koehler; in-laws, Betty Sue Moore, Gail Spain and Ed (Judy) Ross; she was Aunt Betty to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duwart Glenn; grandsons, Tyler Ross and Jack Williams, and by her granddaughter, Kendra Ross. A funeral service for Betty will be held at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN, on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. Her son, Pastor Dennis Ross, will be officiating.
