Audrey Vidimos

Vidimos, Audrey (nee Forrdrescher) Age 83, of Merrillville, IN, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on October 19, 2013. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 49 years Alfred S. Vidimos who she met while at Northwestern University. Loving mother of Scott (Jenny) Vidimos of Chesterton, IN, Allison (Todd) Stultz of Brecksville, OH, David (Mary) Vidimos of North Richland Hills, TX, and Dan Vidimos of Merrillville, IN; cherished grandmother of Adam, Joan (Louis Kisic), and Christine (Brad Joyce) (of Scott); Katherine, Kristen (of Allison); David, Emily, Kate, Matthew and William (of David) and two great grandchildren Taylor and Ava (of Joan). Audrey was born on April 15, 1930 in Oak Park, IL to Walter and Irene Forrdrescher. In her younger years, her passion was dance and ballet. She danced in the Nutcracker in Chicago as a child and continued her dance career into college. She graduated salutatorian from Oak Park High School. During her four years at Northwestern University, she earned a degree in journalism, graduating magna cum laude, and became a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha (honorary society for political science), Phi Alpha Mu (professional fraternity for advertising and journalistic management), and Mortar Board (honor society recognizing scholarship, leadership and service). Upon graduation from college, she embarked on a career with a large advertising agency in Chicago before having a family. After her children left home to pursue their careers, Audrey returned to work at Vidimos, Inc. in East Chicago, where she spent 25 years. Audrey was long time member of St. Stephen Martyr Church in Merrillville. She served as Brownie and Girl Scout leader as well as Cub Scout den mother when the children were young. She was also an avid golfer, bowler and pinochle and bridge player. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband, children and friends at Gary/Innsbrook Country Club for many years. Audrey and Al took numerous couples golf trips together. Audrey played competitively with the Women’s Western Golf Association. She spent countless hours supporting her children as they pursued their interests in golf, softball, swimming and wrestling. She traversed the country while sharing the joy, pride and excitement of her children’s athletic events. She was an extraordinarily social person and truly enjoyed the company of others. A common thread throughout her life was her love of and devotion to her family. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 2- 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point. A rosary service will be at 7pm. Funeral service Wednesday, October 23, 2013, beginning at Burns Funeral Home at 9 am and proceeding to St. Stephen the Martyr Church, 5920 Waite St. Merrillville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Rev. Michael Maginot officiating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, 922 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617.
