Raymond Wellons

Raymond Joseph Wellons was born October 29, 1942 to the union of Richard Porter and Charmie Robinson in Chicago, Illinois. Raymond served in the army from 1960 to 1966, achieving the rank of Sergeant. His occupation was a Cook and Kitchen Supervisor. Raymond later moved to Gary, IN where he met the love of his life, Betty. They got married on November 8, 1965 and then raised a beautiful family. Ray retired as a steelworker at US Steel Mill. He was a dedicated worker and had put in over 30 years of service. Raymond and his wife, Betty, also created a landscaping business called Wellons Landscaping Inc. Ray is known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Raymond was dedicated, very hardworking, loved to be around family, and had a passion for landscaping. He was a person of exceptional dedication and tireless effort. Raymond was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will forever be in our hearts. Preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wellons, daughter Belinda Gee, parents Richard Porter, Charmie Robinson, and Dearlean Porter, sister Beverly Robinson, brother-in-laws Leroy Gray and Carl (Sadie) Gray, and nephew John Sanders. Raymond is survived by; son Raymond Wellons Jr. of Chicago, IL, son Brandon Wellons of Gary, IN, granddaughter Taisaray Wellons of Chicago, IL, granddaughter Lindsay (Decorius) Cooper of Portage, IN, sister Patricia Palmer of Chicago, IL, son-in-law, David Gee of Hobart, IN, sister-in-law Sandra Hurt of Oxnard, CA, sister-in-law Wandra (Gregory) Barnes of Hammond, IN, sister-in-law Tivetta (Kenny) Aldridge of Louisville, KY, nephews; Tyrone Evans, Anthony (Jean) Sanders, Derrick (Toyia) Simpson, Morris (Paula) Simpson, Marcel (Nikki) Simpson, Gregory (Patti) Barnes Jr., Randall (Dana) Hurt, DC Hurt, Kenny Aldridge Jr., Thomas Aldridge, nieces; Cynthia Evans, Kelley Evans, Nicole (Jeff) Piljac, Shaurie Hurt, Shirley Schuler, Linda Golston, Niki Banks, Michelle Jones, and cousins and friends. A Memorial Visitation for Raymond will be held Friday, January 17, 2025, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
