Mary Ann Gough

Mary Ann Gough, age 86 of Crown Point, IN, was born October 18, 1930 in Chicago, Ill. to Larry Valentine and “Daisy” Scarcelli Valentine. Mary Ann was a homemaker and devoted wife of Neville for 55 years. She also supported her husband and his brother Arnold in business as Secretary of Gough Construction for over 20 years and again with Neville’s real estate development business, Gough & Gough, Inc. Mary Ann was a devout Catholic and loved the Lord. She was an active member of St Joan of Arc Church in Merrillville. Mary Ann grew up with a love of art and music. Her father was an artist and both of her parents loved to dance. She was a member of the church choir and active in the ARCS. Mary Ann played the Alto Saxophone and marched in the Tolleston High School band and then again for West Virginia University. Mary Ann was also Miss Mountaineer at West Virginia University in 1949, Miss Lake County 1950 and Miss Tolleston in 1951. Most recently Mary Ann sang with the Choraliers and with St John’s Catholic Church while wintering in Ft Myers, Florida with Neville. She was an avid golfer and member of Innsbrook Country Club. Mary Ann exuded beauty and grace in the way she presented herself to the world. She was always gracious. She was thankful for all the blessings in her life and never forgot to thank everyone for their presence and goodness. She lived a beautiful life and loved to travel to exotic places with her husband and filled albums to share those memories with her family. Mary Ann was married to Neville who preceded her in death on June 20, 2009. The couple most recently resided in Crown Point and had four children; two sons: Larry (Janet) Gough of Louisville, KY, David (Margie) Gough of Merrillville; two daughters- Diana (Paul) McGuan of Milwaukee, WI and Beverly Miller of Orland Park, Ill. Mary Ann’s legacy of love and caring will live on in the hearts of her family. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Lindsay (Peter) Van Gelderan, Ashley Henderson, Neville (Elizabeth) Gough, Michael Gough, Rachel (David) Klein, David Miller, Arielle Henderson, Matthew Gough and Jeffery Gough. And 5 great grandchildren; Micah, Levi and Joanna Gough, Reid VanGelderan and Jonathan Klein. Mary Ann is survived by her sister-in-law, Lena Valentine of Hobart, brother's- in -law -Arnie (Boomie) of Valparaiso, Dale (Barbara) of Phoenix, Homer Rachford and step sister- Rina Kosiba. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her brother Robert (Lee) Valentine. Mary Ann is now re-united with her beloved husband in heaven! Friends may visit with Mary Ann’s family from noon-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 6, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 200 E. 78th Ave., Merrillville, IN, beginning with prayers at Burns Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery. www.burnsfuneral.com
