Marianne Malyj

On September 11, 2023, Marianne Malyj took her final breath, surrounded by her loved ones. The sun rose and the world welcomed Marianne on December 21, 1949, a day the world became a little brighter. She lived a full life of 73 years, filled with joy & happiness. Marianne will be fondly remembered and immensely missed by everyone who knew her, especially her family. Marianne was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Evon. She is survived by her high school sweetheart, loving husband of 54 years John, daughters, Nycole (James)West, & Mary (Max Crim) Malyj, grandchildren, Matthew Malyj, Anne Mari, Jamee, Joshua, Andrew (Amber), and Cody West, great-grandchildren, Ava & Winona West, her siblings Michael (Virginia) Evon, Elaine (Doug) Morrone, Lenora Evon, sister-in-law Stephanie (Ted) Czernik, Niece, Valerie (Keith) Reimink, and Nephew, Eric Morrone, a great niece (Olivia), great nephews (Dean & Reed) and many cousins. Marianne graduated from Indiana University Northwest in 1984 with a BS in Business Management. She retired from IUN in 2012 after 32 years where she served in the Registrar’s Office then as the manager of the IUN Campus Bookstore, and finally as the Director of Purchasing and Campus Services. Marianne was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church where she proudly volunteered running the Friday Pierogi & Fish Fry. She also served as the treasurer of the St. Nicholas Apostolate and helped with the church food pantry. Marianne loved traveling and wine tasting with her husband, cooking, and most of all spending time with her family, daughters, and grandchildren. Friends are invited to meet with Marianne’s family on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 3 – 7 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15,2023 directly at St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 557 W. 57th Ave, Merrillville, IN at 12:00 p.m. Fr. Michal Bucko celebrating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
