We have lost a huge piece of our hearts, and cannot believe we must share this news. Leslie Kirschner, devoted wife, loving mother and doting Gramma, passed away unexpectedly as a result of an emergency medical situation this Saturday, October 6th, 2018. She was surrounded by the family who loves her so much as she met her Creator. Leslie leaves behind her husband of 37 years, Don, and her 3 children, Kristin (Luke), Megan (Max) and Chad (Denise). Gramma will now be the most amazing guardian angel to her 14 grandchildren, Ben, Yaviel, Audrey, Madison, Issie, Aiden, Morgan, Rasija, Grant, Andrew, Thor, Miles, Ella and Asher. She is also survived by her mother, Irene, and 5 brothers and sisters. Meeting her above are her grandparents and father, Joe. As difficult as this is, we choose to remember Leslie in life rather than death. A woman who could recall ridiculously specific events from 50 years ago but had no clue what she had for dinner the previous night. A woman who was so stubborn that it didn’t matter if the words, ‘The Sky is Blue’ were actually written in the sky; if she thought the sky was orange, the damned sky was orange. A woman who put on a really good show that she was a hard-nosed badass, but who would crumble at the sight of those she loved hurting. A woman who would tell anyone she met that her life truly started once her first grandchild was born, and who spent hours of her days commenting on Facebook posts, talking on the phone and learning how to use technology to keep in constant contact with the grandkids she loved so much. A woman whose strength over not just the past few years of failing health, but over a lifetime, was surmounted only by her will and determination to ensure that her family was loved and care for in every way possible. A woman who made her family proud, a woman who we will miss dearly, every second of every day for the rest of our lives. We are so grateful that your strength pulled you through the darkness so many times, and know that, this time, the light on the other side was what you needed to fully heal. As per her wishes, Leslie’s remains will be cremated and we will find a way to sneak some of her into Wrigley Field one day so that she can watch her beloved Cubbies as she rests eternally. Details to come soon on a celebration of life that will take place at her daughter’s home in the coming weeks.
