Gloria Raquel Grace Satkus

Gloria Raquel Grace Satkus, age 85, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on May 11, 2023. She was born to Amparo & Juan Ulloa, on June 26, 1937, in Oak Forest, IL. Gloria was one of six kids. She was loved by many nieces & nephews as well as great nieces & nephews. Gloria was a proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Gloria graduated from Bremen High School in 1955. She was the only one out of her siblings to graduate from high school. Gloria got married to her childhood friend, Sonny, and raised a beautiful family. She worked at Formos Plastic for a time, and later worked for Nabisco. Gloria worked for Nabisco from about 1978 – 2003 until her retirement. In 1980 she moved with her husband, Tom from Posen, IL to The Lakes of the Four Seasons in Winfield Township. The Seasons house was full of many parties and happy memories as her family grew and grew. Gloria loved Chanel No. 5, playing bingo, making dreamcatchers and blankets. She also enjoyed going on road trips and staying in hotels. Gloria was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers *gag*. Gloria enjoyed watching rom-coms, comedies, and especially Steven Seagal movies. Oh, how she loved to laugh. Her favorite thing was to spend time with her grandchildren until they were replaced by the great grandbabies. One of Gloria’s favorite things to do with her grandkids was to mess with them by playing a practical joke, saying something outrageous in public to make her grandkids feel uncomfortable or react loudly. She was so full of mischief and joy. Gloria was also known as China Wina (a childhood nickname), and Muga as given by her first great grandson, Lucas. He combined the words mother and grandma to make ‘Muga.’ It was adopted immediately! She even put it on her license plate. Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband- Thomas “Tom” Bruno Satkus, as well as the father of her children- Lloyd “Sonny” Raymond Calhoun; her granddaughter- Cora Marie DeVries and her great-grandchildren- Thomas Robert Zakutansky, Noel Elizabeth Zakutansky, Charlotte Calhoun, and Salem Calhoun. She is survived by her five siblings- Sylvia (Ernie) Magana, Aurelio “Wee” (Alice) Ulloa, Roberto “Bobby” (Gail) Ulloa, Sandra “Cookie” Parmer, Ernesto “Ernie” (Nancy) Ulloa; seven children- Gloria Schmidt, Daniel “Dan” (Sue) Calhoun, Nancy Calhoun, Raymond Calhoun, Richard Calhoun, Audra (Scott) DeVries, and Christopher (Lisa) Calhoun; fifteen grandchildren- Rebecca (Josh) Mick, Laura Zakutansky, Ashley Kunst, Daniel Jr. “Danny” (Joleena) Calhoun, Katie (Mosses) Wofford, Mark Calhoun, Cade (Nicole) Calhoun, Toni (Matt Rowan) Calhoun, Amber (Grant) Eastling, Jacob Calhoun, Anthony Pugh, Skylar DeVries, Gavin DeVries, Cailey Calhoun, and Bella Calhoun; fourteen great grandkids- Addison Mick, Jordan Mick, Lucas Zakutansky, Maiah Zakutansky, Elizabeth Zakutansky, Elena James, Amara Wofford, Elijah Wofford, Hazel Wofford, Nala Wofford, Braylon Wofford, Abigail Calhoun, Andrew Calhoun, and Kaizen Calhoun. Gloria was surrounded by a tremendous amount of love in her last days. She met her cancer with jokes and laughter as she passed with all the grace and love she had in life.
