Donald James Mueller

Donald James Mueller, age 67, of Hebron, formerly of Gary and Merrillville, passed away in Crown Point, on Thursday, April 16, 2009. Don was a graduate of Holy Angels Grade School and Horace Mann High School in Gary, IN, Class of 1959. He went on to work at Illinois Bell/Ameritech from where he retired in 2001 after 41 years. Don was a devoted Catholic who was formerly a parishioner of St. Peter & Paul in Merrillville and most recently a parishioner of St. Helen in Hebron. He was a 3rd Degree Brother of the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Ryder Council #4047, as well as a brother Elk with the Hobart Elks Lodge #1152. Don served as Union Steward for I.B.E.W. Local 21. Along with the passion to serve his family, Don shared his knowledge and love for baseball with many through tireless devotion at Gary Post 17, American Legion Post 430, Merrillville and Hobart Little Leagues and Andrean High School. He was preceded in death by his father William and mother Margaret Mueller; sister Janet Krok, brother and sister Gerald and Jeanette Mueller. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathleen (Comerford) Mueller; son Bill, wife Lisa and their children Patrick and Molly Mueller; son Donnie, wife Dina and their son Russell Mueller; daughter Lynne, husband Dean Engelman and their children Maggie, Jack and Jared; daughter Susie, husband Donald Patnode and their children Connor and Emma. Don is also survived by his sister Janet’s husband Ron Krok and his family; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill and Mary Beth Comerford, Jim and Cleo Comerford, Irene Comerford and John Solar and special friends Dave and Tina Wiltfang and family. Funeral services Monday April 20, 2009, 9:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, In to St. Helens Catholic Church in Hebron for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Derrick F. Dudash officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Kouts. Friends and relatives may visit with the family at the Burns Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Rosary services with Msgr. Ryder Council 4047 will be offered on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Don’s name to St. Anthony Hospice Center and the S.H.A.R.E. Foundation.
